Pressure washing at high pressure has been used for years to remove paint from buildings, ships, and other industrial uses. High pressure water combined with particles of sharp dirt or sand can scratch or be driven into or under the surface of paint, yet at the same time pressurized water will not remove films of oily dirt that clings to the paint surface without risking damage. That’s why sponges or cloth actually do a better job of cleaning. Similar to a full polish and detail of paint looks fabulous when complete: the polish gently removes the films and smooths the surface, sealing it off from damaging oxidation. In a cloth car wash, the soft touch, combined with cleaning soaps and foam polishes, gently polishes the surface and removes the films that can harbor bacteria and adhere to paint causing damage or stains and eventually exposing it to oxidation. Occasionally paint requires a polishing treatment. If your paint is not too far gone, a clay bar polishing treatment and wax is generally great maintenance and looks awesome! Otherwise a full machine polish, sealant, and hand Simoniz wax service should be done at least once a year or twice in salty winter environments. So called "hot wax n shine" is not any better than any regular spray on wax, without preparing the surface you will only achieve one particle thickness of wax and in most cases its less if the wax was the foaming type when applied - bubbles are just air, not wax - you want a liquid non foaming wax.
